SSNO Funding - Latest Update

Funding Issue Unresolved

In this week's Irish Times, journalist Fintan O' Toole hightlights the ongoing situation in relation to SSNO funding. Mr O Toole drew particular attention to the impact on neurological charities, all twelve neurological charities which applied for the funding were turned down last June.

The Neurological Alliance Ireland (NAI) is continuing its campaign to highlight the impact on the twelve member organisations (including MS Ireland ) which lost vital funding under the SSNO funding scheme last June. The funding was temporarily restored for a one year period but the organisations are facing the same situation in two months time because no decision has been made on two appeals processes in relation to the scheme.

The first appeals process took place last August and we are aware that the outcome was available to the Minister for the Environment as early as October 2014. The outcome of this appeal has not been announced.

Meanwhile, the twelve neurological organisations were then required to submit to a second appeals process in January 2015 with a decision promised by the end of March. It is now the beginning of April and there has been no communication to the NAI.
