800,000 Minds Matter

Neurological Alliance of Ireland Election Campaign

Over 800,000 Irish people are living with neurological conditions like multiple sclerosis, stroke, acquired brain injury, Parkinson's disease, epilepsy, migraine and dementia as well as a multitude of rare and genetic conditions.

Ireland's neurological care services remain critically underdeveloped which means that thousands of people nationwide face a constant struggle to get the level and type of care they need.

To resolve the long-standing crisis in the sector, the Neurological Alliance of Ireland is calling on political parties to commit to addressing the needs of people living with neurological conditions.

MS Ireland is supporting the Neurological Alliance of Ireland’s campaign for Election 2016, which calls for:

1. Investment in neurology services to tackle serious deficits in staffing and access to multidisciplinary care nationwide. These are clearly highlighted in the findings from the NAI national survey of neurology services which will launch in January 2016.

2. Development of neurorehabilitation services essential to prevent disability and support recovery for people living with neurological conditions.

3. Action to protect vital services provided by neurological charities which are under serious threat of cuts and closures after June 2016.
