Counselling in primary care (CIPC) launched for medical card holders

A free counselling service has been set up by the HSE for patients with medical cards who are over 18 years of age. CIPC is a short term service that provides up to eight counselling sessions with a professional qualified and accredited counsellor or therapist.

For people with MS counselling can help people come to terms with a diagnosis and discover new ways of coping and making changes. It can also help people to develop strategies to help with changes in their health, family, work and social life.

Counselling can be very effective as you and your therapist can work together to address any issues and concerns you may have in a confidential setting.

It is suitable for people experiencing certain difficulties such as;

Depression

Anxiety

Panic attacks

Relationship problems

Loss issues

Stress

To avail of the service or for more information contact your GP or member of your primary care team. They will be able to refer you to the service. Once a referral is made you have two weeks to follow up and arrange an appointment.
