Pilot a Huge Success!

The Western Regional Office ran a pilot six week Self Management programme during October / November 2012.

The programme is a skills course for people with MS, exploring ways in which MS affects each person individually and the skills and tools that can be used to manage it more effectively. It focuses on looking after oneself by being organised, using a diary, setting realistic goals, encouraging healthy lifestyle choices and managing stress.

The concept of awareness is explored by using mindful techniques and by observing our responses to events. Self-management involves using resources available to the person. Some of these resources will be within us, like exploring past successes to build on and setting one’s own achievable goals, but also through learning from each other and sharing ideas with the group.

There was very positive feedback from the participants, they felt that structure and organisation was given to skills they already possessed as well as being given new tools on how to cope with living with MS. We will be running the course again in the Spring of 2013 and anybody interested in participating should contact the Office (091) 768630 or email western@ms-society.ie

If anybody with MS is interested in becoming a co-facilitator of this course please contact us at the office on (091) 768630 or email western@ms-society.ie
