Pilates

Recruitment for Pilates research project is now closed

Karl Fleming, a Structured PhD student, along with Dr. Matthew Herring (Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences) and Prof. Susan Coote (Clinical Therapies Department) of UL are seeking your participation in a research project examining the effects of Pilates on mood among people with multiple sclerosis (MS).

Who can participate?

Anyone with a diagnosis of MS, aged 18 years or over, with no experience in participating in Pilates can take part. Participants should have no other health conditions or medical concerns preventing safe participation in physical activity.

What do I have to do?

If you decide to take part, you will complete two home-based sessions per week of Pilates over an 8-week period. We will allocate participants to either an immediate-start home-based Pilates group or a delayed-start Pilates group. Questionnaire assessments related to your mood and physical activity level will be completed before and after the 8-week Pilates sessions. If you are randomly allocated to delayed start, you will complete the questionnaires at the start and then 8 weeks later; and then you will start the Pilates exercise.
